IEP Goal: Hayze is learning to accept ‘No’ as an answer, by staying calm and then moving onto another task. (without an adverse reaction}, once a day.

When Hayze hear the word no this causes him to make a very loud noise and or throw himself on the ground and become non-compliant.  When Hayze asks me if he can go on the ipad, his most favourite thing to do, I try to say "yes after you have........".  Mostly Hayze will accept this and we are finding that this is lessening the outburst that we were seeing and experiencing.  When I know that I am going to say "no" to Hayze I go and stand up right next to him and give him the alternative response I am wanting him to say.  I paraphrase for him.  An example of this is "Hayze use your words, I really want to go on the ipad and I feel cross that I can't".  I then tell him when he can.  I will continue to paraphase to Hayze so that gets a bank of responses he can use when he is displeased about something.
