Hayze is learning to skip count in two's

Recently Room 2 received some new maths equipment, Numicon,  this will help  Hayze make the visual connections between patterns and numbers.  Hayze is exploring the picture overlays on the grids.  Once Hayze is familiar with the shapes he will be able to instantly recognise the shapes and the numbers they represent making it easier to understand and skip count in two's.

Writing goal - To write a simple sentence on the line and reread it pointing 1 to 1

Hayze had a fabulous attitude at writing today! He wrote ' the train needs some blue paint' reading it carefully to Ms. Giles pointing 1 to 1 as he read each word,

Hayze is learning to write on the lines and reread what he has written.

Hayze is getting better at writing on the lines.  Hayze is fortunate to work one to one three times a week with Miss Taylor so that he can practice this skill.

Hayze is learning to use some comparative measurement language to describe the ordering or comparing of objects and events e.g. big, bigger, biggest , long, longer, longest, heavy, heavier, heaviest, tall, taller, tallest

During our maths lesson we were putting cars down a tube, race tunnel, to see whose vehicle traveled the longest distance with one push.  We discussed whose went the shortest distance and whose traveled the same distance.  Once a week we do an activity that requires the use of comparative language.  In week one each of the students were given a length of string and had to put in in order from the longest to the shortest.   And in week two we put a range of containers in order from the smallest to the biggest.  Throughout the term Hayze will be given the opportunity to practice using comparative language.

Hayze is learning to recognize similarities and differences between a range of mini beasts and to sort based on given criteria.

This term we are learning about mini beast and during week one we learned about worms.  As a lesson we recreated an environment that worms like to live in,  Hayze especially enjoyed making a worm garden.  We used chocolate ice cream for the dirt, flake for the bark, Oreo's for the debris, chocolate logs for the logs, spearmint leaves for the leaves, we had mushrooms too.  And we had jelly worms that had been set in straws for our worms.
It was lots of fun!
